Extraction system for dust

When the product is harvested and collected in loose storage or box storage, still a lot of soil is taking into the processing facility. There is a lot of processing done before the product coming from the storage, is ready to be sold. The different processing machines will need extraction to prevent dust floating around the area. We are talking about machines like:

  • Box tippers in to hoppers or bulkers
  • Roller cleaners
  • Onion toppers
  • Grading machines
  • Weighing machines
  • Brushing machines

Also dropping points can cause a lot of dust.Dust which is created by the machinery is extracted in the following way : The places where dust is spreading out, we will install dust tents.. By creating an under pressure inside this tent, we prevent dust spreading around in the building. The dust will stay inside this tent and is extracted by extraction system through the duct system, connected to this tent. Places to extract dust are for example at box tippers, roller-cleaning sets from a receiving hopper, brushing machines, web cleaners, onion topper and so on.

Dust Tents

To extract dust, it is important to cover the places of the processing line where the dust is spreading out. We do that by building a so called dust tent to cover those places. The places where dust is spreading out we will install dust tents. The dust will stay inside this tent and is extracted by the duct system which is connected to this tent. By creating an under pressure inside this tent, we prevent dust spreading around in the building. Each tent has his own and special size. The measurements of these tents need to be taken when the processing line is in place. We can also take the dimensions from a step file drawing of the supplier of the processing line. It is important the dust fits perfectly on to the machine and place where the dust is spreading out. The reason for that is that the closer the dust tent fits the better under pressure we can achieve inside this tent. The connection of the extraction system will most of the time at the top of the tent ceiling. The plastic used for the dust tent is clear 1 mm thick plastic. If we need to make a tent for a box tipper we will install flaps, where the box is tipping through. We also use these flaps when the machine needs to have access for cleaning for example a product change.

Filter Systems for Dust Extraction

The system to extract dust is a filter installation with an automatic filter cleaning system with compressed air. The filter unit consist of filter cartridges, which filter the air so, that it can be returned into the building. This very important in the winter period to prevent the warm air to be transported outside

This saves a lot of energy!

The built-in filter cartridges are cleaned by compressed air, fully automatic. As soon as the installation is stopped the cleaning cycle will start. The cleaning with compressed air is a very deep cleaning and will help to let this unit run for a very long time. This cleaning cycles will take around 20 minutes IMPORTANT!: The cleaning of the filters should be done at least 2 times at a normal working day, to keep the extraction power strong. The dust will be collected in to small containers placed underneath the unit, or at bigger system it is collected in a waste box. The electrical switch box is consisting of frequency control unit. Advantages of this solution:

  • Powerfull extraction.
  • Low noise level
  • Lower running cost with the processing line
  • Big filter surface, there for a longer running time and a long lifespan
  • Healhtier working conditions.

These filter units for dust are from 5,5 kW till 22 kW. The larger the power the more extraction point can be attached.

Mobile Units

In our program of extraction systems we have our mobile units. These units are used for one or two dust or skin extraction points. They are mounted with wheels. This means they are movable and usable at different places. The unit is built up as follows. The extraction points is connected to the unit with a duct system. While it are small units we advise to place them with a maximum distance of 5 meters away from the extraction point when skins are extracted. Point for extracting dust can be further away.Inside the unit there is a build in fan. This fan is transporting the waste from the extraction point(s) in to the plastic bag(s) which are mounted underneath the unit. The extracted air escapes through the filters and is cleaned for 99,9%. The filters need to be cleaned a couple of times per day For an 8 hour working day we advise to clean them 2 times per day. This is done in 2 ways. The simple way is with a handle on the filter. By turning this handle you activate the clean system inside the filter. The waste coming from the filter is falling done in to the plastic bag. The mobile unit are available in 3 types. The smallest one is with 1 filter cartridge and a motor of 2.2 kW. The middle type has a motor of 2.2 kW and 2 filter cartridges. The larges type is a unit with 3 filter cartridges and a motor of 3 kW.

Wind Shifting

At the start of the processing line the product can be very dusty will come from the box emptying station or a large hopper onto the processing line. We want to get rid of the leaves which can be in the product and which can affect the further processing. With a standard extraction hood placed at the first dropping point on to a belt or elevator, we cannot take these leaves out, because they can be between and under the product. But we can do it with a so called wind-shift system.

How does this work:

We will install a wind-shifting fan to blow air through the product layer upwards. Above the this point, we will install a metal extraction hood to cover this part. We will connect the extraction system to this hood. The extraction, connected over there, is very strong and will extract the air stream, loaded with dust and leaves, coming from de blowing fan. The blowing fan can be used to extract dust from dust tents nearby. This will save capacity for the main extraction system
